Memphis Showboats 10, Boston Breakers 35

Dunigan Dominates as Breakers Cruise Past Showboats 35-10

Matt Dunigan delivered a masterful performance to lead the Boston Breakers to a convincing 35-10 victory over the winless Memphis Showboats at Nickerson Field. The Boston quarterback accounted for four total touchdowns, throwing for 308 yards and three scores while adding 53 rushing yards and another touchdown on the ground. Dunigan’s favorite target Frank Lockett torched Memphis’ secondary with two explosive touchdowns – including a 59-yard bomb in the second quarter – as part of his 99-yard receiving day. The Breakers’ offense overcame four interceptions by converting 7-of-14 third downs and scoring touchdowns on three of five red zone trips, while their defense harassed Memphis quarterback Walter Lewis into a miserable 10-for-30 passing performance with four sacks.

Memphis showed brief signs of life early, taking a 3-0 lead on Alan Duncan’s 48-yard field goal and briefly regaining the advantage 10-7 in the second quarter on Lewis’ 11-yard touchdown pass to Greg Moser. However, the Showboats’ offense completely stalled thereafter, managing just 203 total yards while committing three turnovers. Boston’s defense, led by Marcus Marek’s 10-tackle, three-forced fumble performance, completely shut down Memphis’ rushing attack (67 yards on 29 carries) and kept constant pressure on Lewis. The Breakers’ special teams also contributed, with Scott Thomas averaging 25.7 yards on kick returns and 12.3 yards on punt returns to consistently provide good field position.

With the win, Boston improves to 3-0 and establishes itself as a legitimate contender in the Atlantic Division, showcasing an explosive offense capable of overcoming mistakes. For Memphis (0-3), the search for answers continues after another dismal offensive showing marked by poor protection (4 sacks allowed) and an inability to sustain drives (1-of-14 on third down). Dunigan’s stellar play – particularly his deep ball connections with Lockett – gives Boston momentum heading into Week 4, while the Showboats must regroup quickly to salvage their season after being outgained 419-203 in total yards. The Breakers’ balanced attack (111 rushing yards, 308 passing yards) proved too much for the Memphis team.
