1985 New Orleans Brass Roster, Stats, and Recap

The 1985 season started off with a 6 game losing streak with 5 of those 6 games on the road. They didn’t get their first win until week 7 against the Oakland Invaders. They followed that with thier second win and first shut out at home against the Denver Gold. They followed that with another 5 game losing streak before winning 2 of their last four to finish with a total of 4 wins on the season.

With little to no run game most games, the brunt of the responsibility fell onto quarterback Rusty Hilger. He threw a staggering 632 times for 25 TDs and 25 Ints. Jerry Parrish and Jamie Harris emerged during the season as his favorite targets. The defense put up big numbers as they spent a majority of time on the field. However, giving up a league high 564 points leaves no question that they were a weak spot as well on the team.

The year showed some promise from some of the players and a potential core to build around. But, overall, the inaugural season is usually one of trials and tribulations and the Brass suffered those in abundance.
