Las Vegas Ace 24, Los Angeles Express 30

Week 4’s Monday night offering featured an instant classic between Las Vegas and Los Angeles. LA stormed out to a seemingly insurmountable 27-0 lead before Randall Cunningham performed some of his magic to bring the Ace back to within 3. Vegas held the ball with a chance to win the game on a 1st and 10 from LA’s 13 with a little over a minute to go. But, they were unable to even convert the 1st down, let alone score the tying, and possibly winning, touchdown.

Cunningham shined again for the winless Ace. With almost no help from his running backs again, he went 24-39 with 287 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also led the team in rushing on 13 for 58 with another touchdown. He was responsible for the team’s only touchdowns on the day. If the Ace gets him some rushing help, they might just be a dangerous team going forward.

On the winning side, Eric Dickerson seems to have finally found his form. While he didn’t score, he rushed for over 100 yards for the first time and showed flashes of the brilliance that led LA to pursue him in the face of the NFL labor issues. Frank Suerer continued to perform well, too, with Steve Young having his own problems adjusting to the league over the last two years. Fear not, Express fans, he’s sure to break out sooner rather than later.

Las Vegas (0-3) plays at home against Arizona Friday night.

Los Angeles (2-1) hosts Chicago in another Monday night game.
