Dateline: Monday, March 3, 1986. Los Angeles finished off week 5 in the 1986 USFL Season with a win over the Chicago Blitz. The game looked to be firmly in LA’s hands until a wild 4th quarter that saw 29 points scored, 3 lead changes, and a tie until Eric Dickerson scored the winning touchdown with just over a minute left.
Los Angeles held on to force a turnover on downs for Chicago’s last possession to sneak away with the win. Four turnovers nearly caused the Express to lose the game. However, they clearly outmatched the Blitz and that mismatch proved to be the difference.
Chicago goes on to play Philadelphia. Los Angeles plays on Monday night again at the Generals.
