Randall Cunningham followed up his offensive player of the week performance with another monster game. He completed 26 of 35 passes for 424 yards and 5 touchdowns. He also again led the Ace in rushing with 93 yards. New starter Lavale Thomas started to find his form, rushing for 58 yards and another touchdown. Not to be outdone, Cunningham’s Tampa counterpart, John Reaves, threw for 6 touchdowns in the game.
Vegas led halfway through the 4th quarter and looked poised to end the week at 2-3. However, a risky play at the end led to a turnover on downs, the final Tampa touchdown, and then a Cunningham interception to end the game. With the win, Tampa moves to 2-3 and the loss puts Vegas at 1-4 early in the season.
Next week, Vegas looks to rebound in what looks like another potential shootout against Denver. Meanwhile, Tampa hopes to gain some momentum against rival Birmingham.
