Dateline: Saturday, March 8, 1986. Behind a strong performance by new quarterback Chuck Long, the Chicago Blitz defeated the Philadelphia Stars to move both teams to 2-3 on a frigid Saturday in the City of Brotherly Love. The teams endured below freezing temperatures for the duration of the game. Long’s 15-20 performance with 3 touchdowns stood out as the difference for the Blitz.
Philadelphia led late in the game and even had a chance to win with less than one minute to go. After Long threw his third touchdown of the game with just over a minute left, the Stars started their drive. A costly interception ended their final attempt at a win. In the loss, Kelvin Bryant racked up over 100 yards and a touchdown.
Both teams have an important division match next week. Philadelphia again hosts, this time Washington. Chicago goes to Detroit to take on the Panthers Monday night.
