
Dateline: Sunday, March 9, 1986. Houston kept pace in the Central divisional race, defeating Washington in the Astrodome. Jim Kelly threw only 13 passes, completing 10 of them and two for touchdowns. Without backup Fowler, Lazarus ran for 98 yards and 2 touchdowns as well.
Washington kept pace with the normally more explosive Gamblers, pulling to within three early in the 4th quarter. But, Kelly and Houston closed any further discussion with an 80 yard drive capped by Kelly’s second touchdown of the game. Houston also executed two defensive stands in the final quarter to seal the game.
Washington continues on the road against Philadelphia. Houston hosts Memphis next week.
