Dateline: Monday, March 9, 1986. Denver held on to defeat Birmingham in overtime in a chilly Sunday afternoon game. The two teams traded blows with Denver owning the first half and Birmingham coming back to tie it up in the second half. A Dan Miller 40 yard field goal tied the game with just over a minute left.
Birmingham then had the chance to win it in overtime but Miller missed a 45 yard field goal. That led to the winning drive and field goal by Denver. Both offenses had a field day, gaining over 600 yards each. Birmingham showed slightly more balance with 200 yards rushing. Meanwhile, Bob Gagliano threw for over 500 yards for Denver.
