
Dateline: Saturday, March 23, 1986. Birmingham moved to 6-1 and first place in the South division with a surgical defeat of the Pittsburgh Maulers. Joe Cribbs scored two touchdowns in spite of only rushing for 78 yards. Quarterback Cliff Stoudt also threw a touchdown to help Birmingham to the win.
Pittsburgh’s season from Hell continued. In spite of trading their 3rd string quarterback to the Green Bay Packers for offensive line help, they gained only 231 yards, 42 of those rushing. Lone bright spots Jim Karsatos and Lee Flowers brought some life to the team with a touchdown about halfway through the fourth.
Both teams are home next week. Birmingham welcomes division foe Memphis. Pittsburgh faces one of its only chances to get a win against the Brass.
