Dateline: Sunday, March 24, 1986. Michigan took care of business in the dome, handily defeating Memphis. Michigan’s young quarterback Jim Harbaugh threw three interceptions, but he made up for it with three touchdown passes to Anthony Carter.
Michigan scored in every facet of the game. Their defense returned an interception and fumble for a touchdown. Albert Bentley returned a kickoff for a touchdown after Memphis cut the lead to 35-20. That return cemented the win for the first place Panthers.
Michigan hosts Houston next week in a battle for the lead in the division. Memphis visits Birmingham.
