Dateline: Monday, March 25, 1986. Jacksonville closed out another great week of football by defeating the Houston Gamblers. If not for a garbage time touchdown pass by Jim Kelly, the Gamblers scored only 3 points, their lowest of the season. Jacksonville’s defense put the league on notice, holding one of the most dangerous offenses to less than 300 net yards.
Houston found no purchase on the evening. Kelly, especially, suffered against a defense that sacked him 3 times and forced 3 turnovers. 2 of those turnovers were interceptions by Kelly. Houston looked to miss their running back Fowler for the first time since the trade as Harrell could muster only 72 yards rushing.
Jacksonville welcomes Tampa for a battle of Florida. Houston has another big Monday matchup against division foe Michigan.
