New Jersey Generals 23, Philadelphia Stars 17

Dateline: Sunday, April 5, 1986. New Jersey survived an early Philadelphia onslaught, going down 17-0. They looked to carry that lead into halftime until Herschel Walker scored from the 9. He otherwise had a decent game, 10 rushes for 72 yards, but Philadelphia kept him from running wild this time.

Quarterback Doug Flutie added two third quarter touchdowns. He passed for one and rushed for one. Part of Philadelphia’s problem was that they couldn’t get their run game going. As a result, quarterback Chuck Fusina needed to carry the team and he just didn’t have enough on this afternoon.

Jersey hosts Denver. Philadelphia travels to Memphis.
