Denver Gold 36, New Orleans Brass 40

Dateline: Sunday, April 27, 1986. New Orleans outlasted Denver in a shootout on Sunday afternoon at home. After building a 33-14 lead, Denver came back to score 22 straight. Rusty Hilger then threw one of his 5 touchdown passes about halfway through the fourth quarter. An interception on the next drive all but sealed the win until a missed field goal gave Denver one last chance.

With only seconds left, the Gold could muster no miracle to pull out the game and ended in defeat. In a losing effort, Bob Gagliano also threw five touchdowns. However, he also threw 3 interceptions, including the costly one after the go ahead touchdown.

Denver is off to Washington. New Orleans travels to Philadelphia to play a suddenly hot Stars team.
