Dateline: Saturday, May 3, 1986. Denver obliterated Washington to stay within striking distance of the division lead Saturday afternoon. They rushed out to a 21-0 lead from which Washington never recovered. Quarterback Bob Gagliano performed surgically, throwing 5 touchdowns but only 7 incomplete passes. Bill Johnson added 151 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns.
Washington gained 353 yards on the game, but that paled in comparison to Denver’s almost 550. Three turnovers and 5 punts (including 4 three and out) doomed Washington to the loss. Unfortunately, there were no bright spots on the day for the Feds.
They get to try again next week against co basement dweller Pittsburgh. Denver travels to LA in a heated divisional battle.
