
Dateline: Sunday, May 4, 1986. Arizona quietly dismantled Pittsburgh at home Sunday afternoon to move to 4-8. They still reside in the West’s basement, but with no team able to run away with it, they remain both in the division and playoff battle right now.
Quarterback Jon Carlson played just well enough to keep the Wranglers in the game. They scored on combined 140 rushing yards and three touchdowns by their running backs. In spite of an early Tomczak touchdown pass, the Maulers gave up 21 straight to the Wranglers and never recovered.
Arizona hosts Birmingham. Pittsburgh plays Washington in a battle for the East basement.
