Michigan Panthers 45, Boston Breakers 59

Dateline: Monday, May 5, 1986. After surviving a close one against Tampa Bay last week, Boston went back on the offensive against Michigan this week. They took another step closer to becoming the second team in the USFL to finish the regular season undefeated. As luck would have it, the first was Michigan in the inaugural season of the league.

Michigan closed to within a touchdown early in the 4th quarter. However, Boston got 2 of Matt Dunigan’s 7 touchdowns in that quarter to extend the lead and ultimately win the game. The true difference in the game, though, was Boston’s ability to run. They outgained the Panthers 199-82 on the ground.

Michigan hosts Philadelphia and Boston has another tough test on the road against New Jersey.
