
Dateline: Sunday, May 18, 1986. Washington pulled off an upset over New Jersey at home Sunday afternoon. After going down 28-13, they stormed back with 24 straigh points. Quarterback Mike Hohensee was efficient, throwing 3 touchdowns on only 13 completions.
Washington won in spite of a monster game by Herschel Walker. He ran for 221 yards and 2 touchdowns. He added another 57 yards receiving and one of Flutie’s two touchdown passes. New Jersey pulled within 3 late in the game and even forced a punt for one last chance. Time ran out before they could get in position for the tying field goal.
Jersey hosts Oklahoma. Washington is off to Memphis.
