Dateline: Sunday May 16, 1986. Houston played just well enough to defeat division rival Chicago on Sunday afternoon. Jim Kelly threw only 13 passes in the game, completing nine for 111 yards. However, their running back took over, gaining 201 yards and scoring 2 touchdowns in the game.
Chicago couldn’t match that output, gaining only 298 total yards of offense on the day. Sandy Schwab stepped in for young QB Chuck Long. He threw 2 interceptions on the day, dooming Chicago to a bleak outcome. In fact, their only touchdown on the day came as a result of a kick return.
Chicago hosts New Orleans. Houston gets a well deserved bye.
