Dateline: Sunday May 16, 1986. Denver exploded in the second half to defeat Arizona in Tempe Sunday evening. After a back and forth first that saw the gold leading only 14-10, they scored 4 unanswered touchdowns. The outburst included 3 straight rushing touchdowns by Stan Waddell.
Arizona scored on a Jon Carlson pass with less than 2 minutes left in the game. However, it was far too little too late after the Gold’s 28 point explosion. The Arizona defense was simply out matched, giving up 520 yards to the Gold, including almost 200 on the ground.
Arizona visits Tampa on Friday. Denver hosts Jacksonville in a meeting of top teams.
