Dateline; Sunday, May 18, 1986. Denver took care of business against Jacksonville Sunday afternoon to stay in the race for a division title and, barring that, a place in the playoffs. The Gold built a 28-3 lead before Jacksonville made bit of a comeback to pull within 10. Bill Johnson scored on an 8 yard run to essentially put away the game.
Jeff van Raaphorst threw for 2 touchdowns on the day to facilitate the attempted comeback. However, he also threw 4 interceptions on the day including one right after Denver’s final touchdown drive. Both teams played evenly on the stat sheet, but the costly mistakes put Denver over.
Jacksonville hosts Arizona Friday night. Denver travels to Philadelphia.
