Jacksonville Bulls 23, Boston Breakers 37

Dateline: Sunday, May 25, 1986. Boston is only one game away from a historic regular season. However, they know the job won’t be done unless they hoist the USFL Trophy at the end of the season. When asked about the 18-0, coach Dick Coury said, “That’s great and all, but makes no difference if we don’t perform in the playoffs. That’s why I’ve given Matty (Dunigan) a rest. Plus, Shawn (Halloran) proved to be a more than adequate replacement.”

Jacksonville becomes Boston’s latest victim in their potential date with destiny. In spite of playing one of their best games they, like all others this season simply couldn’t keep up with Boston. They still hold a favorable position in the playoffs and may get to avenge this loss then.

Jacksonville travels to Birmingham. Boston is off to Philadelphia.
