Dateline: Saturday, June 14, 1986. Birmingham’s defense took care of business Saturday afternoon to defeat Philadelphia in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. Quarterback Cliff Stoudt added three touchdown passes Joey Jones and RB Joe Cribbs ran in two touchdowns to handily defeat the Stars.
With the Stars run game held under 90 yards rushing, it fell on aging quarterback Chuck Fusina to attempt to carry the offense. While he performed admirably, he showed definite signs of not being able to carry an offense anymore.
Birmingham waits until tomorrow to see if they host New Jersey or travel to Boston for the Eastern Championship.
