Dateline: Sunday, June 15, 1986. Houston and Los Angeles saved the best for last. They delivered an instant classic Sunday evening in the divisional round of the playoffs. LA went on a 13-0 scoring streak to take a 20-7 lead. They padded that lead with another touchdown and Houston looked to be out of it.
Then quarterback Jim Kelly took charge and threw two touchdown passes to give the lead to Houston with 4 minutes left. Not to be outdone, but LA QB Frank Seurer found LA’s magnificent running back, Eric Dickerson with about two and a half minutes left. Jim Kelly showed why he’s the real deal and in talks to join the NFL possibly after next year with a last minute drive to put the game away.
Houston wins another home gameagainst the Gold in what has become a bitter rivalry between the teams.
