Dateline: Sunday, June 29, 1986. Missed opporunities and mistakes from Sunday afternoon will haunt the Stallions. In spite of a defense that held Boston to one of its lowest offensive outputs on the year and sacked Matt Dunigan 3 times, Birmingham lost the USFL East Conference Championship game to the Breakers. Birmingham committed 6 turnovers, two that were returned for touchdowns.
Breakers quarterback Matt Dunigan threw for only 218 yards and 2 touchdowns on the game. Birmingham also intercepted him once. And, so, the Stallions are left wondering “what if” they were just able to hold onto the ball in the game. Boston travels to the Silverdome to take on the winner of Houston and Denver out west.
