Kush’s Krew – May/June 1986

Fan of the Week (Week 14)

Our fan photo comes from Sarah Peterson, who took a picture of her son with one of their horses on their ranch. She believes that it shows the gentle tough love that her son shows for the horses and we couldn’t agree more. Contact us for your tickets to the next game, Sarah!

April 1986 Recap – Some Good, Some Bad

Record: 2-2 (W vs. San Antonio/Pittsburgh, L to Philadelphia/Memphis)
The Good:

  • The Wranglers opened the month with a thrashing of San Antonio and closed it with a bruiser of a win over Pittsburgh.
  • The 2-2 record in the month of April represents their best record in a month so far.
  • Quarterback Jon Carlson played well in all of the games. Maybe Coach Kush has found his heir to Vince Evans. With a little bit of work and an improved offense, he can lead this team to a winning record.
  • Leading rusher Otis Brown performed well in the two wins, gaining 219 yards and 3 touchdowns in the wins
  • Kush’s bruising defense allowed only 74 points and turned the opponent over 10 (including 6 against San Antonio) times.

    The Bad:

    • When Brown struggled, so did the team. In the two losses, he gained only a total of 71 yards and did not score.
    • They allowed Kent Austin to throw two touchdowns in the loss against Memphis.
    • Their third down offense struggled in the losses, 4-12 and 5-15, dooming them to short drives and punts.

Kush’s Take: ” I think the team is starting to come together. Let’s push for a playoff spot in the last weeks of the season.”

Coming Up: May and June Games

    Week 14: Birmingham Stallions
    Week 15: Denver Gold
Week 16: at Tampa Bay Bandits
    Week 17: at Jacksonville Bulls
    Week 18: at Denver Gold
    Week 19: Las Vegas Ace
    Week 20: Bye Week

Our Take: The Wranglers have a tough end to the season. However, iron is forged in the heat of the mill. Nothing good ever came without a fight. At 4-8, they are only a couple of games out of the division lead and play 4 huge division games over the next 6 weeks. If they continue to play their typical tough defense and get good games from Smith, they can definitely play their way into the playoffs like coach said
