CHICAGO BLITZ FAN NEWSLETTER: “BLITZKRIEG BRIEFING”
*October 15, 1986 – Vol. 1, Issue 3*
BLITZ START 0-2: STORM CLOUDS OR CALM BEFORE THE STORM?
The Blitz’s 1986 campaign has opened with back-to-back losses, but true Blitzkrieg members know this team thrives under pressure. Here’s the breakdown:
Week 2: Lost 10 – 17 to the hated Panthers. Led 10-0 but the Panthers scored 17 unanswerd to take the win.
Week 3: Herschel Walker came to town and ran all over us. 188 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Coach’s Corner:
“We’re inches away from breaking big plays. The dam’s gonna break soon.”
— George Allen, chewing gum furiously
THIS WEEK: SAN ANTONIO GUNSLINGERS (1-1)
Battle Plan:
- Fix the Trenches: O-line must protect Long (sacked 10 times already)
- Unleash Rook: The rookie RB averages 8.4 YPC—give him more touches!
- Sack Parade: Don Lee & co. need to hunt San Antonio’s QB (allowed 6 sacks in 2 games)
Blitzkrieg Fan Mission:
🔹 Wear Gray for the “Gray Out” at Soldier Field
🔹 Third-Down Siren Chant (bring air horns!)
🔹 Tailgate Special: “Blitzkrieg Brats” at Lot C (look for Mike’s tank-shaped grill)
5-WEEK ROAD TRIP AHEAD: SURVIVAL MODE
After San Antonio, the Blitz face a brutal stretch:
- @ LA Express (1-1)
- @ Philadelphia Stars (1-1) (Uh-oh)
- @ Michigan Panthers (2-0) (Rivalry bloodbath incoming)
- @ Washington Federals (1-1) (Must-win)
- @ San Antonio (Rematch!)
Key to Survival:
✔ Willis (16.7 YPC) needs more targets
✔ Defense must force turnovers (only 3 INTs so far)
✔ Frank Coral’s leg (5/8 FGs) could decide close games
