Dateline: Saturday, June 7, 1986. San Antonio ended another nightmare of a season with a thud against Jacksonville in one of four week 20 games. Never expected to be a powerhouse, the Gunslingers end the season at 2-16 and with many questions to be answered before next year. Coach Gil Steinke got fired almost as soon as the ending whistle blew. Quarterback Rick Neuheisel hinted at retirement and perhaps going into coaching. Whoever comes in is going to need a huge broom to clean up this mess.
Jacksonville, meanwhile, sewed up the number 3 seed and a home playoff game in the wild card round next week. Their 13-5 record earns them a first round game against the New Jersey Generals after they lost to Tampa Bay in the other Saturday game. Come back next week for our coverage of all the wild card games!
