
Dateline: Saturday, June 14, 1986. Oklahoma and Michigan treated fans to a wild opening Wild Card Weekend game on Saturday evening. The Panthers went on a 38-0 run to start the game and looked primed to cruise into the second round of the playoffs. Jim Harbaugh threw a touchdown pass and Albert Bentley ran for two.
Then, Rick Johnson and the Okalhoma offense roared into action. Johnson threw four touchdowns to bring the score to 38-28. Running back Rick Fowler, who the Outlaws traded for earlier in the season, ran for a game high 143 yards. He punched it in from the 2 to bring the Outlaws within three. Oklahoma shut down Michigan on the next drive and John Lee kicked a field goal with 16 seconds left to force overtime.
Michigan made quick work of the extra period, driving 51 yards on 4 plays and kicking the winning field goal. The win sends them to Denver next week.
