Dateline: Sunday, July 15, 1986. Philadelphia ran out to a 23-7 first half lead and held on to take the victory in Tampa Bay. The two man offensive team of Fusina and Bryant combined for almost 300 yards of offense on the game. Meanwhile, the defense intercepted Tampa 5 times, including a toucdhown near the 5 minute mark of the 2nd quarter.
Inspite of those 5 interceptions (and two fumbles), Tampa stayed within striking distance for most of the game. They ran out of time, scoring one last toucdhown with only 30 seconds left in the game. The game may have been John Reeves’ last. He is 36 years old and Tampa wants to see what they have in their young current back up, Frank Reich.
Philadelphia’s win sets up a matchup against number 2 seed, Birmingham next week.
