Offense: Sam Harrell, RB, Houston Gamblers. Houston Gamblers’ running back, Harrell, claimed the coveted Player of the Week title with a remarkable ground performance. Carrying the ball 18 times, Harrell bulldozed through the opposition, accumulating 109 yards with an impressive 6.1 yards per carry. What set him apart was his nose for the end zone, scoring an exceptional four rushing touchdowns.

Defense: Richard D’Amico, LB, San Antonio Gunslingers and John Bungartz, LB, Denver Gold. In a stunning display of defensive prowess, two standout players have emerged as this week’s co-Defensive Players of the Week. D’Amico, with a remarkable performance in Game 2, showcased his tenacity with 10 tackles, including a crucial tackle for loss, and an impactful forced fumble. His disruptive presence on the field undoubtedly influenced the course of the game. On the other side, Bungartz, in Game 6, demonstrated his defensive excellence with 10 tackles, a pivotal sack, and a forceful forced fumble. Bungartz’s ability to penetrate the opponent’s offensive line and disrupt plays made him a formidable force on the field.

Special Teams: Tony Good, KR, Boston Breakers. In an electrifying performance on special teams, Tony Good emerged as the clear standout and earned the title of Special Teams Player of the Week. Good showcased exceptional skills in kick return, tallying an impressive 177 yards on nine returns, with an average of 19.7 yards per return and a long of 31 yards. His ability to navigate the field with speed and agility played a crucial role in providing favorable field position for his team.

1984 Week 12 Wrap Up

The New Jersey Generals secured a 27-17 win over the Washington Federals, and the Memphis Showboats triumphed over the San Antonio Gunslingers with a convincing 31-7 victory.

Saturday witnessed the Houston Gamblers outplaying the Pittsburgh Maulers with a final score of 31-14. Moving on to Sunday, the Oakland Invaders dominated the Arizona Wranglers, securing a comprehensive 31-10 win. The Philadelphia Stars showcased their prowess with an impressive 43-0 shutout against the Los Angeles Express. Week 12 Standings

Players of the Week

Offense: Greg Landry, QB, Chicago Blitz. Landry threw for 411 yards and two touchdowns. He also added a rushing touchdown in Chicago’s win over Denver on Friday.

Defense: Malcolm Taylor, DE, Arizona Wranglers. While Arizona lost their game, Taylor did his best to try to secure the win. He recorded two sacks, two forced fumbles, and 7 tackles in the game.

Special Teams: Marc Lewis, KR, Oakland Invaders. Lewis only returned one kick in the game, but he took it 96 yards to the house to help Oakland to a win this week.

1984 Week 11 Wrap Up

Week 11 saw a mixture of expected results and complete head scratchers. On Saturday, both Oakland and Los Angeles won their games, as expected. However, Tampa shockingly lost to Jacksonville in the battle of Florida. Sunday saw another wild upset with San Antonio beating Chicago. Birmingham upended Philadelphia at home, the Stars second loss of the season.

The remainder of the games went as expected with Houston’s offense continuing to run wile and New Jersey notching another win after their terrible start. Memphis defeated Washington and Arizona closed out the week with a huge win in Boston on Monday.

Offense: Herschel Walker, RB, New Jersey Generals. Walker caught 8 passes for 137 yards and three touchdowns. He added another 68 yards rushing with the other touchdown to account for all of the Generals scoring in the game.

Defense: Will Lewis, DB, Houston Gamblers. Lloyd returned an interception 20 yards for a touchdown and recorded 8 tackles in the Gamblers win over Michigan this week.

Special Teams: Danny Miller, K, Houston Gamblers. Miller was perfect on the day, kicking one field goal and 6 extra points this week.

1984 Week 10 Wrap Up

Another full weekend of USFL football saw games on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. On Friday, Oakland, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh all got wins. Philadelphia’s brings them to 9-1 and was an important division win.

On Saturday, San Antonio won in Arizona and Tampa Bay took care of business at home. Then on Sunday, Birmingham buried Denver to the tune of 52 points. New Jersey kept their win streak alive after a winless start. And, Oakland came back big against Chicago. Los Angeles closed out the weekend by dueling Houston to a victory.
