Introduction
After the last episode, I said I needed a week. Due to circumstances, that turned into a couple of weeks. And, so I finally give my thoughts on Marvel Zombies Episode 4 and wrap up Frightober. The previous episode ended with the “death of hope”. This episode picks right up where that left off.
The Nova Corp chase our heroes in order to administer what they call “disinfection protocol.” Someone says that it si more accurately that they want to vaporize them. Kamala fights to keep the ship together and succeeds for a while until the Nova Corp overrun them. She then saves them with one of her “bubbles”, but they fall to their deaths. Or, do they?
One Last Chance
Then Kamar Taj save them with the magic circle thingies and bring them to explain what happened. When T’Challa defeated Thanos, the Infinity Stone were destroyed. That released a storm that threatened to destroy everything. Banner, Hulk, stepped in and absorbed the storm, keeping it contained.
But, Wanda raised enough zombie soldiers to assault the Hulk and take the power for herself. They need to stand up to the witch and keep her from overwhelming Hulk and using the infinite power to her own nefarious ends. What can she possibly do to make things worse? Perhaps it’s best not to ask.
Infinity Hulk
I discussed this episode with a student. We both loved the concept of Infinity Hulk and want more. Give me an episode of “What If” that explores the true power of this god-like power. Just in the time we get, he destroys entire battalions of zombie warriors. Everything that Wanda throws at him gets tossed aside like children’s toys.
Even when she gets close enough and tries to manipulate him with her illusions, he punches her without a second thought. How can he ever be defeated? Well, the cavalry arrives and it might just have been best if they hadn’t interfered.
Too Many Cooks?
The heroes help at first. They fight through zombie hordes in their own ways. Each one of them gets an especially character driven kill. But, Wanda manipulates them, especially Kamala, by raising their former allies and turning them against our heroes.
Zombie Thor also shows up. And, everything goes south from there. Thor kills a few heroes. Zombies get a few more. Kamala, distracted by her former allies, loses the witch. Wanda uses all of this to get close enough and gets the power.
Kamala realizes all is lost. The only way she can make things better is by giving in to the Witch’s promise.
Happily Ever After…
The witch’s promise is that everything is fixed. The world is reborn again. Kamala wakes up to her mother calling her. She meets Riri and Kate. All seems to be right with the world. However, through the illusion, she sees visions of the zombie world. They try to warn her that the world isn’t real. That they still fight. The zombies are the truth and she lives in a lie.
Marvel Zombies Episode 4 ends on a cliffhanger. You know me. I love this shit. Give me an ending that doesn’t end and I’m a happy man. I know some people want things wrapped up in a nice little bow, but that’s not how life works, folks. It’s messy out there and nothing is every truly won for good. You just have to keep fighting to make things right.
