The Burning God Episode 2: Noob’s Book Club

Right on schedule, for the most part, with The Burning God Episode 2. Being on February break and a snow day today helped, but I will celebrate every victory. Things again get grim for Rin in the book. I’m starting to wonder if maybe a trilogy was too long for this particular story. In some ways, it feels like she keeps repeating the same plot points. In any case, let’s dig into the episode.

First, I give some editorial about the book and themes. Then I read the summary from Super Summary. After that comes a discussion of some of the major themes in the book; Kitay as moral compass, the legacy of trauma, and the lines that Rin still won’t cross. After that, I make some connections to Grave of the Fireflies, fascism, and violence as a solution. The episode wraps with a discussion about the characters as mirror of Rin. Then, the outro.
